The American Express Platinum advance screening of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 2024 dropped on Wednesday, September 4th. It literally took a whole new generation for the second instalment of the Deetz tribe. And this film did not disappoint! The film is due for release to a wider audience on Friday, September 6th.
This is not a film review, as previously mentioned, but another plug for the American Express Platinum lifestyle series, including discussions, insight and perks. In 2024, American Express Platinum stepped it up with their Premium Events Collection, formerly known as, “By Invitation Only.”
More Perks, Less Fraud
The Social Diary needs to address the “elephant in the room.” American Express Platinum offered movie screenings on a complimentary basis. But not for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The cost for this screening was minimal, but with more perks added on the backend. Moreover, there is a viable explanation why American Express Platinum “may” forfeit comping for movie screenings in the future.
Previous movie screenings allowed for four complimentary tickets. However, Platinum and Centurion members over circulated their tickets to non-members. This caused massive overcrowding in theatres. And to be honest, also effected the “quality” of attendees, since many were non-members.
Moreover, this was similar to the “overcrowding” experiences at airport lounges, which resulted in the removal of “comped” non-member guests of Platinum and Centurion members. However, Platinum and Centurion members can still have up to two complimentary airport lounge passes for guests, if they spend at least $75,000 per annum.
Not surprisingly, the theatre for this screening was “breathable.” That was because there was half the “usual” crowd, so it felt more intimate and less noisy. Past screenings felt like a frat party. Goes to show that “freebies” don’t always bring quality. Every attendee received a “grab bag” with decorated sugar biscuits and sunglasses. The concession snacks included popcorn, a beverage and candy.

When The Social Diary discusses “American Express Platinum,” we also include Centurion (black) cards, as well. Join if you enjoy traveling and “luxury items,” both “quiet” and “loud.” But only join if you can afford the fees and the responsibility. However, don’t join if you can’t pay the balance in full each month. A “carryover” will defeat the purpose of card ownership. The Platinum and Centurion (black) cards are “charge cards.” They don’t have any minimum spend either.
Through the American Express Platinum Premium Events Collection, films are front and centre. There are two types of screenings, advance private or Premier with the cast and crew. The Social Diary has attended both formats as members. Unfortunately, the world premier for this film was in Italy.
This film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. Whilst we love traveling, August is the worst time to “glam-it” in Europe. Way too touristy for our taste! Therefore, an advance private screening was ideal! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was definitely “worth the wait!”
