Saturday, April 6, 2024 kicked off Daffodil Days in Newport, Rhode Island. Additionally, ‘Let’s Get Daffy Newport Dog Paw-rade‘ was all the rage. Moreover, the loveable pups were dressed to the nines in their fashionista best in show attire. The Social Diary believes every pup was a winner this day, with their best paws forward.
Opening Ceremony
Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong officiated at Clarke Cooke House, Bannister’s Wharf. Additionally, a fitting tribute to Mr. Daffodil, John Hirschboeck was in order. Likewise, he received the key to the city. Mr. Hirschboeck, also known as the Daffy Guy, is an important figure in “Daffodillion,” with the goal of planting one million daffodils throughout Newport. Furthermore, his brilliant lightbulb moment helped ignite Daffodil Days in Newport. He wore a hat of daffodils as he accepted and kissed the key!
The newly crowned Ms. Daffodil, Dr. Kelli J. Armstrong, President of Salve Regina University, cut the ribbon to start Daffodil Days in Newport. The April events include a Daffy ride, ice cream social and Sip and Shop. Moreover, 1,450,000 million Daffodil bulbs have sprung up all over Newport, with the beautiful days of Spring.
Let’s Get Daffy Newport Dog Paw-rade
Let the Daffy dog paw-rade begin! Strutting their stuff were loveable pups in colourful and whimsical outfits with their humans. The paw-rade route started at The Black Dog, Bannister’s Wharf and ended at Queen Anne Square, where the official costume judging took place.
Best in show Window
In addition to the ‘best in show’ dog paw-rade costume judging will be the best window decorating competition. Who do you think will get the bragging rights? This a tough call since The Social Diary viewed some exceptional windows.
