Most of us can name a handful of authors who dominated thriller and crime fiction. These include Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, John Le Carre and James Patterson. This is a short list, of course. But at the Thriller Panel author series at the Ocean House, a new selection of good reads awaited, with a fresh breed of gifted authors. They may not be household names yet, but given their track record, they are on their way to becoming a household staple.
The Social Diary attended the opening night Premier of Pay No Heed Opera on Friday, October 18th. Moreover, it was an intimate and immersive performance. Likewise, performed at the iconic Redwood Library in Newport, this operatic production was engaging and powerful.
On Thursday, October 10th a natural phenomenon occurred over Rosecliff. Could it be that the “spirits” were trying to make contact? After all, The Social Diary attended Spiritualism in the Gilded Age lecture. Alas, no! The beautiful dancing hues resulted from a G4 (severe) storm. So we are calling this story, “Gilded Spiritualism and Northern Lights.”
If you haven’t seen a game of polo, you are in for a treat. Nestled in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, the Newport Polo Club is America’s first, established in 1876. Whether you are new to polo, or a frequent watcher, the game of polo is accessible to all. Newport Polo USA vs England was our season ending for 2024. However, the Newport Polo final game was on September 28th.
Blithewold Big Beautiful Bamboo Birds celebrated with an opening reception on Saturday, September 21st. The Great Elephant Migration of Newport is off to a new home. However, these big beautiful bird Avatars will continue to delight for another year!
This was the second annual outing for The Social Diary. The Newport Boat Show 2024, this past weekend, did not disappoint. If you enjoy boating, or perhaps looking to add to your “fleet,” this was the place to be.
The American Express Platinum advance screening of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 2024 dropped on Wednesday, September 4th. It literally took a whole new generation for the second instalment of the Deetz tribe. And this film did not disappoint! The film is due for release to a wider audience on Friday, September 6th.
The opening night reception on Thursday, August 29, 2024 kicked off the new exhibit of Wild Imagination at the Newport Mansions. The Gilded Age furnishings included a tortoise shell crib and a coat rack made with walrus tusks. However, domesticated pets including a green eyed cat, forged a special bond between animals and their humans.
The Newport Mansions “phantom” members were part of the “nearly 600” who attended the 4th Annual Member Appreciation Night on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Globally known as the Duchess of York, this spunky and passionate “red-head” delighted fans at the Author Series on Wednesday. In addition to her charming tales from the heart, she spent about an hour signing books and posed for photo ops for all who queued up.
