If you want to be useful, learn to serve others. in the words of John Wick, “I have served. I will be of service” is not coming from weakness but strength. He also lived by a “moral” code. The fictitious character only “killed” bad guys.
Personal, community and/or business connects us. After all, we don’t live in a vacuum. Service is giving the best “experience.” It’s about the follow-throughs and follow-ups. Therefore, always put your best front forward. Altruistic service is giving without any expectations. Volunteering our time for the greater good is the best altruistic gift we can give.

Service with Strength and Purpose

On Monday August 5, 2025 we heard from two chef-owners about the innovative ways they keep their restaurants solvent and tethered to the community. The Social Diary’s founding members are not only foodies, but industry investors. We have been attending JBF’s dining opportunities since 2000.
Chef Diego Galicia’s (Mixtli) innovative approach includes allowing his employees to create pop-ups when the restaurant is closed, with money in their pocket. The restaurant does not take a cut. Executive Chef Samuel McCandless (CBurger) works with beef partners who are organic and local, in addition to surrounding himself with the community and creating not only delicious eats but eventful memories.
Many of the events and programmes The Social Diary attends don’t make it into our stories. One of these events we had the pleasure to attend back in August 2024 was a special film screening at Redwood Library in Newport. Additionally, in June, The Hope Fund for Cancer Research hosts a lavish “white tie” gala with distinguished guests.

Cancer is still a complicated subject. Moreover, no two cancers are alike. For instance, breast cancer diagnosis and treatment varies from person to person. For this reason, scientists and medical professionals are constantly exploring new ways to treat and eventually eradicate the disease.
