Call it Scarlett Johansson’s “Labour of Love.” Fly Me to the Moon Premier took flight on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the AMC Lincoln Square NYC. Taking the directing helm is Greg Berlanti. Further, this special event for American Express Platinum and Centurion members included great food, signature cocktails, reclined viewing and party at the Rainbow Room.
Fly Me to the Moon Screening
Please note this is not a film review, although The Social Diary highly recommends this film for its original content and witty delivery. Platinum and Centurion members who missed the Premier, will have another chance tonight (July 10th) to screen the film. The film is due for release to a wider audience on July 12th.
Felice Columbus: Premier Reception
The pre-event reception for Fly Me to the Moon Premier was held at Felice Columbus. This reception was curated for American Express Platinum and Centurion members. This charming and intimate Italian restaurant is located on Columbus Avenue (parallel to Central Park West) at 71st Street. The Social Diary mixed and mingled with other members and delighted in the excellent food and beverage offerings at Felice.
Felice went “all in” for the pre-event reception. Moreover, they exceeded our expectations, and we arrived without having an inkling. Italians have a generous heart, so it didn’t surprise The Social Diary to see a table laid out with scrumptious offerings. Was this a pre-event reception or an Italian wedding feast? Additionally, the staff were first rate, prompt, courteous and friendly.
Have travel plans in NYC? Make sure to add Felice Columbus to your dining stops.
Felice Columbus: Greg Berlanti and Jim Rash
Guess who came by for photo ops and conversation? Greg and Jim made an appearance and stayed more than “just a while.” They were not only generous with their time, but passionate about their latest project, Fly Me to the Moon. Indeed it was a passion project, spear headed by Scarlett Johansson.
Fly Me to the Moon: The Red Carpet?
The”official red carpet” awaited us after our delightful outing at Felice Columbus. Escorted in groups, we arrived to the the tented “carpet walk.” Definitely not red, more like black or navy in hue. The tent was cooled by portal A/C units. NYC in July is humid mostly, and we were in the viewing area for two hours, or more. Heels make a statement, but slippers are better suited when standing around. Moreover, a glass of bubbly helps pass the time, as well. Hospitality was first rate from beginning to end.
Talents and the Entourage
The talents arrived in waves. Many were unfamiliar faces. That’s what happens when you don’t watch the latest television shows or on social media much. The staff held up placards with hand written or pre-typed names of the talent. Even the photographers had to ask who the talents were.
One photog didn’t even know the name of the Director of the film! A few of us yelled out, “His name is Greg!” We guessed he was too busy “hitting” on a 21 year old attendee. Nothing says “yuck” like an old guy hitting on a woman young enough to be his daughter…or grand daughter.
Having attended several “red carpet” premiers, the fashion is “hands down” our favourite! Besides, some of the female talents hit the brief with their glittery entrance. Still others defined their own look. Moreover, every ensemble was uniquely crafted from the clothing to the shoes and those gorgeous handbags.
Fly Me to the Moon: The Cast
Scarlett Johansson was once the highest paid actress. We remember when Demi Moore held that distinction. Regardless, Johansson is still an A-list power player. She also envisioned and produced Fly Me to the Moon.
The cast boasted industry veterans and “bright” young talents including Noah Robbins, Donald Watkins and Anna Garcia. Absent from tonight’s line up were Woody Harrelson and Ray Romano. Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum brought the wattage and the star dust.
Fly Me to the Moon Premier: Scarlett Johansson
Everybody was waiting for the one and only, Scarlett Johansson. Of course, she was the last to arrive, and what an entrance she made. She was escorted by her husband, Colin Jost who played Senator Cook. They even shared an intimate moment on “the carpet.”
One can understand why many “ordinary” people turn into fan-girls! OMG! Scarlett!
The Perfect end…but never the end
The last time we were at the Rainbow Room was in 2009. Before we launched The Social Diary, we were part of the NYC set. Parties, fashion and dining, but not necessarily in that order. Most Sundays, we would head to the Rainbow Room, a nice perk for members of Rockefeller Center Club. Years later, a new club popped up, but the Rainbow Room no longer held their traditional Sunday buffet brunches.
Imagine our delight when we received the email with event details. Post reception at the Rainbow Room it read. The Rainbow Room went through some “cosmetic” changes, but some of the familiar lines were there. And of course that beautiful view!
