An Evening with Bruce Springsteen, Bono, and Patti Smith at Tribeca.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Tribeca Festival, we attended a special evening honouring Bruce Springsteen. He received the Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award. The event took place at BMCC in lower Manhattan.

After September 11th, the Tribeca Festival helped revitalise lower Manhattan. Twenty-five years later, that mission remains an important part of the festival’s identity.
Bruce Springsteen and Bono
The evening began with Bono introducing Bruce Springsteen. He then joined Springsteen for a live conversation. They discussed music, social responsibility, community, and the role artists play in public life.
Despite receiving the award, Springsteen remained humble. He felt undeserving of the honour. Instead, he focused attention on others. He specifically credited Robert De Niro. De Niro’s commitment to New York City helped shape the festival into what it is today.
There are clear connections between Springsteen, Bono, De Niro, and Harry Belafonte. Each used a public platform to advocate for causes they believed in. Their work often blended art with social commentary. Whether one agrees with their politics or not, civic engagement has been a defining part of their public lives.
Patti Smith joins Springsteen and Bono
The evening also featured a performance by Patti Smith. Her appearance added another memorable moment to the celebration. Seeing Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen share the stage felt special. It was a reminder of the connection between music, culture, and activism.
One of the highlights for us was our location. Seated in the front row, we were only a few feet from the stage. Watching Bruce Springsteen perform from that distance was unforgettable. Every expression and gesture was visible. The setting felt intimate despite the size of the event. Bruce Springsteen and Bono at Tribeca was the highlight of this festival!

We captured photographs and videos throughout the evening. We share those highlights here, with extended videos reserved for friends and family. Moreover, it was a remarkable celebration of music, culture, and the lasting influence of artists who continue to inspire generations.
Moreover, The Social Diary continues to make memories. Check out Earth, Wind & Fire and their “sold out” opening night concert for their documentary.
