The Social Diary attended this delightful afternoon concert with I-Heung Lee Classical Pianist. What a perfect companion to our afternoon tea!

Rosecliff to Redwood
Our musical journey started with the Gilded Age Orchestra of Newport last Thursday evening, our Newport season opener. Likewise, I-Heung Lee opened the season for the Redwood Library and Anthenaeum, “America’s first purpose-built library (1747), and the oldest continuously operating in its original location.” We have attended several programmes at the Redwood including the opening night Premier of Pay No Heed Opera.

I-Heung Lee Classical Pianist
Executive Director, Benedict Leca opened the programme and introduced I-Heung Lee, an accomplished concert pianist. Selections from Ravel, Chopin, Leschetizky, Liszt, Brahms, Czerny and a favourite from Gottschalk delighted guests.
Chopin called Gottschalk “King of Pianists” and the moniker fits. Unfortunately, Gottschalk doesn’t get the recognition he so deserves. Therefore, it was pleasing to see Gottschalk listed on this afternoon’s programme. I-Heung Lee’s performance transported us to the parlour parties and entertainment we grew up loving and enjoying.
Music, Art, Culture and Giving
The Social Diary’s 2025 season in our storied communities is off to a thrilling start. We kicked off with The Black & White Ball at the Ocean House in Watch Hill. Prior, we attended a gallery opening reception, and gandered through the rooms of the Marble House.
Our social diary is filling up quickly, as are our dance cards. Additionally, we are looking forward to more events at the Redwood Library and Anthenaeum. This venue was certainly one of the highlight discoveries in Newport.
